Visit Wales 2023: Llwybrau. Wales, by Trails
2023: Llwybrau. Wales, by Trails
The Visit Wales theme for 2023 is Llwybrau. Wales, by Trails. Llwybrau translates to “Paths” and Wales can certainly boast plenty of those! Visit Wales is teaming up with all of their tourism partners, including Gors-lwyd, to showcase the full range of trails Wales has to offer.
There are trails for all seasons and these can lead through woodland, along the Wales Coast Path, a cultural walk through an art venue, a castle, a historic home. How about stargazing too? Or a water trail at sea or on a lake? Trails can even be a tour of a brewery, distillery or eatery. Trails can be connected through landmarks, the great outdoors and weaved with the Welsh language, culture and ancestry.
We are lucky that our guests can enjoy many trail experiences when staying at Gors-lwyd Cottage.
There are mountain walks literally on the doorstep. Some of these stunning walks lead to the beaches at Nant Gwytheryn, Nefyn and Trefor.
Stargazing: Did you know that there are many Dark Sky destinations in Wales? And one of them is right on Gors-lwyd’s doorstep! The Upper Car Park at Nang Gwrtheyrn was designated as a great place to stargaze by the local authority. As it’s so close to Gors-lwyd, you can even get amazing starry nights at the Cottage itself. If you viti to the Go Stargazing website, it will give detailed information on the best time to stargaze –Stargazing in Llithfaen
If you fancy venturing onto the water, there are boat trips from Abersoch, where you will see lots of wildlife such as sea birds, dolphins and seals. You can also hire paddleboards and surfboards from Abersoch Watersports. Paddleboard hire is also available from Discover Llyn. Discover Llyn also have electric bikes for hire and they offer a drop off and collection service from either Gors-lwyd Cottage or from a meeting point anywhere on the Llyn Peninsula.
Paddleboarding and kayaking doesn’t have to be on the sea. There are many lakes within Snowdonia. One of the largest lakes nearest to Gors-lwyd in Llyn Padarn, Llanberis. It’s about a 1/2 hour drive away. There is also a small railway running alongside the lake. There is ample parking and a cafe with water-sports shop.
We also have cycling trails not too far away at Coed y Brenin. Coed y Brenin has many routes for all abilities through a huge forest. In the centre of the forest is the visitors centre, cafe, bike hire and bike shop. There are also walking routes too.
If culture is your thing, there are many castles; Caernarfon, Conwy, Harlech, Beaumaris and Penrhyn Castle.
There is the excellent Glyn y Weddw art gallery at Llanbedrog. Arts and craft centres can be found a bit further afield – Oriel Mon on Anglesey and Corris Craft Centre near Machynlleth.
Fancy a distillery tour? Cwrw Llyn is our local brewery in Nefyn and they offer tours of their brewery. We also have a winery in North Wales! Conwy Vineyard offer tours, some of which include lunch. There is also the Aber Falls distillery offering gin and whisky tours.
You can certainly make the most of the 2023 Llwybrau. Wales, by Trails, so many activities to choose from – some more active than others. But the main point of Llwybrau. Wales, by Trails is to experience Wales at its best and make lots of happy memories.
If you would like any more information on any of the above activities feel free to get in touch. There is also lots of information available at Gors-lwyd Cottage.
