The Llyn Peninsula is really quiet at this time of year, so if you enjoy walking, cosy pub lunches or fancy a trip to Snowdonia it a great time to visit.
Aberdaron is on the tip of the Llŷn Peninsula. It’s coastal village with a large beach and stunning views of the two small islands of Ynys Gwylan-Fawr and Ynys Gwylan-Fach (these are collectivley known as Seagull Islands). If you walk along the clifftops from Aberdaron, you will get a view of Bardsey Island. Boat trips to Bardsey run throughout spring and summer leaving from Porth Meudwy. The Porth y Swnt visitor centre is open all-year-round and this is where there is a car park too. The centre has a children’s interactive tour highlighting the history of Aberdaron, coastal conservation and looking after the environment. Aberdaron pubs are open for drinks and food but you may find the bakery and some shops closed for winter.
Heading towards Snowdonia, the villages of Betwys-y-coed and Beddgelert are just two of our favourites. There are some beautiful walks which start and end in the villages. Even in winter the shops, cafes and pubs are bustling, it’s well worth a visit. The drive through valleys and mountains is stunning too.
Steam trains do not operate all-year-round and don’t forget that if you do climb Snowdon, the summit visitor centre and cafe is closed from late October and reopens in spring.
There are lots of maps and walking routes in the cottage. So it’s time to enjoy cool fresh air in the day and some cosy warm nights by the fire!
